Machine Shop
To create great invention you need great minds, big ideas and the ability to think outside of the box. When this all comes together the next thing is “let’s see it and play with it.” This is an area where we excel. We need to be able to prototype ideas so we constructed and staffed a world class instrument shop to do this. The vision was to be able to take ideas and quickly manufacture and test, adapt and modify on the fly to keep the creative minds at the lab continually pushing their inventions forward with the ability to take an idea and turn it into reality overnight.
With this in mind, we’ve equipped the scientists, inventors and hackers with 3D rapid prototyping machines, lasers cutting and engraving machines along with state of the art CNC machine tools capable of machining 5 axis at a time. State of the art EDM machines were installed to be able to take the impossible part and make it a reality. Along with machining we have full fabrication and sheet metal capabilities anchored with a state of the art 5 axis CNC press break, water jet and state of the art welding equipment. A lot of research and time was spent selecting the best and broadest range of equipment to meet any inventor’s needs.
Our world class instrument shop is staffed with the best talent around. The team of 5 has over 100 years of combined experience and have had their own shops or been inventors. They’re named on many patents in machining and manufacturing, covering a diverse world of projects: from the CERN collider in Switzerland to building one of the tunnel digging machines that helped dig the tunnels between England and France. Our Instrument Makers have helped lead, design, and build surgical instruments and medical research equipment for one of the leading medical research universities in the world. Physics research has also played a huge role in the training of our talented and diverse staff. From pure research supporting and manufacturing equipment for the South Pole ozone research instruments, to sensors for exploring underwater thermal vents, and supporting ongoing research for Nobel Prize winner Hans G Dehmelt. We believe in providing the best talent and equipment in the world to support bright minds and great inventions.
